County Planning Now to Distribute COVID Vaccine Due Here in a Few Weeks

By

Delaware County could start seeing the first shipments of a coronavirus vaccine within the next few weeks, reports 6abc.com.

The number of vaccines being offered has not been announced.

“As we get more information, we adapt our plan, but we do have a robust plan to deliver medicines during a crisis like this,” said Timothy Boyce, director of Delaware County’s Department of Emergency Services.

Delivery will be in two phases. One will ship to hospitals and nursing homes for administration to patients and staff.

The second shipment will be organized by the county.

Three large sites are being considered to distribute the vaccine to residents, using medical and non-medical volunteers from the Delaware County Citizens Corps, led by Ed Kline.

“So while we have about 1,500 that include almost 500 medical volunteers, I know we are going to need about 1,000 more people,” Kline predicted.

Volunteers have been helping at testing sites, flu clinics and food drives since March 3, putting in more than 24,000 hours. saving taxpayers over a million dollars, Kline said.

When the vaccine arrives, volunteers will be needed for non-medical roles, like record keeping, data entry and administering the vaccine.
