(Video) Hundreds Turn Out in Drive-By Parade to Celebrate Newtown Square Vet’s 105th Birthday
A World War II vet in Newtown Square can always look forward to a unique birthday, since it falls each year on Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day.
For this year’s 105th celebration, Eugene Vickers received special honors, as hundreds of first responders turned out for a drive-by parade past his home, reports fox29.com.
Vickers was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in Communications, stationed in the South Pacific as a Chaplin. He was on Iwo Jima. Mr. Vickers said he served in five battles during World War II.
To honor his service, and wish him a happy birthday, police, fire, EMS, veterans groups like Wounded Warriors, elected officials and community members participated in a surprise drive-by parade.
Hundreds beeped, waved, sang and wished Mr. Vickers a very happy birthday.
Mr. Vickers sat outside his home at about 2 p.m., surrounded by loved ones, sharing stories with those who stopped by.
