Organizers of Delaware County’s annual Veterans Day parade plan to offer some type of ceremony marking the day as they work around this year’s pandemic, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

“We’ve going to have something. We’re not going to ignore Veterans Day,” said Media Mayor Bob McMahon, who is also chairman of the Veterans Legacy Project.

The parade usually draws thousands of people to Media Borough, beginning with a gun salute at the war memorial near Jackson and State streets.

It concludes with speeches at the Media Courthouse.

The parade, one of the largest in the state, has been held every year since 1960.

This year, there could be a drive-by ceremony with vet names called out and a socially distanced American Legion color guard.

Other options include traditional events with participants properly distanced or a virtual ceremony with a half hour “Best of Veterans Day’ video highlighting the past 21 years of parades.

Marching bands will not participate.

Dignitaries in past parades included U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey and Bob Casey and Vice President Joe Biden. Past parade themes have honored Desert Storm veterans, women in the military, and medics.
