New COVID-19 Cases Climb Friday in Delaware County to 65 as Virus Takes 4 More Lives

Delaware County’s new COVID-19 cases remained higher for Friday, with 65 new cases reported, for a total of 12,430 cases, according to the Chester County Health Department.

Cases have been trending above 50 for the past week with the exception of Wednesday, when only 49 new cases were reported.

After three days with no new COVID-19-related deaths reported, four more residents; one in Middletown, two in Chester and one in Darby Township lost their lives, raising the death toll for the county to 804.

Of those, 617 were in long term care facilities and personal care homes, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 40 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 554 cases, affecting 4.83 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases reported, at 1,895, affecting 2.28 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

The following are the number of reported cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County as of Wednesday, Oct. 14, listed by municipality in descending order of caseload.

The list includes which communities saw an increase in cases based on previously unassigned cases and new cases since Tuesday, the last date these statistics were updated.

There are 307 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 120, 834 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting an 83.25 percent recovery rate.

  • 20 to 29: 2,305 cases (up 12)

  • 60 to 69: 1,488 cases (up 8)
  • 70 to 79: 900 cases (up 4)
  • 80 and over: 1,312 cases (up 1)

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Oct. 16, that there were 1,566 new cases of COVID-19 across the state since statistics were last reported Thursday, bringing the statewide total to 179, 086.

There were 25 new deaths reported statewide as of
Thursday, Oct. 16 since these statistics were last reported Thursday, with total deaths listed at 8,457.
