Long before most people even begin to think about pumpkins and carving Jack-O-Lanterns for Halloween, Mother Nature has already done a little pumpkin-gutting herself.

Delaware County’s July highs scorched half of the local pumpkin harvest, according to a 6ABC News report.

“In July, there was that big spell where there was seven days with 102, 110 heat index, and they did not set fruit then,” Linvilla Orchards Farm Manager Norm Schultz said.

The unfortunate weather conditions here — and across the eastern seaboard — have forced Linvilla to tap its grower connections as far as Texas and Canada, in order to be prepared for the coming demand for fall pumpkins.
