New COVID-19 Cases Drop Significantly to 36 in Delaware County Wednesday, With 2 Deaths Reported

Delaware County saw a significant decline in new cases reported for Wednesday, Oct. 21, with only 36 cases reported. That brings the total number of cases in the county to 12,770, according to the Chester County Health Department.

Sadly, however, two additional COVID-19-related deaths were also reported in Chester and Ridley Township, bringing the county total to 806.

Of those, 617 were in long term care facilities and personal care homes, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 40 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus.

No new cases were reported in the borough for Wednesday.  It has 557 cases, affecting 4.86 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases reported, at 1,944, affecting 2.34 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 313 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 124, 319 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting an 82.31 percent recovery rate.

  • 20 to 29: 2,369 cases (up 7)

  • 60 to 69: 1,533 cases (up 6)

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Oct. 21, that there were 1,425 new cases of COVID-19 across the state since statistics were last reported Tuesday, Oct. 20, bringing the statewide total to 186,297.

There were 29 new deaths reported statewide as of
Wednesday, Oct. 21 since these statistics were last reported Tuesday, with total deaths listed at 8562.
