Faces of Philanthropy Include 2 Firms From Delaware County

Two Delaware County companies have teamed up with nonprofit organizations to make a difference in the region, writes Lisa Dukart for Philadelphia Business Journal.

They are part of a group of 30 partnerships recognized by the Business Journal this year as Faces of Philanthropy honorees.

Nominations were made by the public and reviewed by the publication’s editorial board.

AmeriHealth Caritas in Newtown Square partnered with Horizons Greater Philadelphia in Wayne, a student enrichment program.

The healthcare solutions firm started a $300,000, three-year commitment to Horizons Greater Philadelphia to support the nonprofit’s expansion.

Horizons Greater Philadelphia provides students with educational programs to improve social skills and self-confidence. One of Horizon’s locations is at Episcopal Academy.

Haverford Trust Co. in Radnor has partnered with Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School since 2012 on a work-study program and has donated $330,000 to the school

Students learn investing skills and participate in a stock market simulation, as well as embed in the business sector.

“A culture of community, innovation, and grit at Haverford laid the foundation for my subsequent career success,” said Jibreel Murray, a former student who works today as a fixed-income investment officer with the firm.
