Swarthmore Restaurant Owner Scott Richardson Gets His Moment at the Democratic Convention
Swarthmore restaurant owner Scott Richardson got to share his 10 minutes of fame with some heavy hitters Monday– Michelle Obama, Bernie Sanders, John Kasich, writes Victor Fiorillo for phillymag.com.
He had met Democratic presidential nominee Joseph Biden back in June when the candidate visited Delaware County. Now he was being interviewed at the Democratic National Convention.
“I’ve never been so nervous in my life,” he says. “I didn’t do as badly as I thought I did.”
Richardson is the owner of Occasionally Yours, serving the breakfast/lunch crowd at Swarthmore College, He talked about the impact of the pandemic on small businesses.
“To be honest with you, I’m just frustrated,” Richardson told DNC host Eva Longoria in the recorded interview. “I don’t understand how we got to where we are. We’re the greatest nation in the world. And it just seems to me that if we just came together on this one issue alone, maybe as Americans and being united, we can overcome.”
The interview was unscripted, Richardson says, and he was asked to avoid any attacks on Donald Trump.
“I think they wanted to save those for a little later in the broadcast,” Richardson says, with a laugh.
