With Delaware County going green today, adult softball teams are gearing up to save what they can of their traditional spring/summer season, writes Tery Toohey for the Daily Times.

Outdoor groups of up to 250 are allowed to gather, plenty of people to put together a few games.

Several leagues plan a shorter summer season or a combined summer/fall season.

Others are waiting until next year.

Marcus Hook weeknight and Sunday leagues and the Millennium Sunday League will try summer/fall. The Brandywine Valley and Ches-Del Senior Softball Leagues, and the Penn-Del Over-50 League will play a shorter season.

Suburban Women’s Slow Pitch and Lawrence Park will not play.

Coronavirus rules mean no pre- and post-game handshakes or high fives.  No huddles.  Social distancing in the dugouts.

Players can wear masks, or not.  Equipment won’t be shared. Bats will be wiped down.

Spectators are welcome with their own chairs and masks, practicing social distancing.

The Ches-Del League will be the first to restart, hopefully by next Tuesday.

“We’re ready to go,” says League President Joe Morgan. “We’re just waiting for the permission to do so. And we have a whole list of safety measures.”
