Coronavirus Update: State COVID-19 Cases Top 63,000, Delaware County Hits 5,600

Editor’s Note: COVID-19 statistics were unavailable from the Chester County Health Department for Monday, May 18. The following information is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, whose statistics  may differ from local health department figures. The state does not provide a town by town breakdown of COVID-19 cases.  

The Pennsylvania Department of Health  confirmed as of midnight, May 18, that there are 822 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in the state, bringing the statewide total to 63,056.

There are 4,505 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 87 new deaths.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Monday in Delaware County was 5,689, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The state is reporting 436 deaths in the county as of May 18. Of those, 394 occurred in a long-term care facility or personal care facility in Delaware County.

There are 40 nursing home and personal care facilities in the county reporting COVID-19 cases.  About 1,400 long term care residents and 284 staff members are infected.

The virus is now reported in all 49 municipalities.

The county has had 15,036 people test negative for the virus.

The southeast region of the state, which includes Delaware, Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks and Chester Counties, has the highest number of positive confirmed cases in the state, at 40,722.  The next highest number of cases in the state is in the northeast, reporting 12,064 cases.
