Many small business owners in the Philadelphia region, including Delaware County, have not had much luck so far with SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan program nor the Paycheck Protection Program, writes writes Erin Arvedlund, Joseph N. Both are designed to help businesses weather the unprecedented crisis caused by the coronavirus.

Micah Berlin, founder of Micah’s Printing in Berwyn, has submitted his applications, but has still not received any money. He also believes some of the wording regarding the loans is confusing and is causing people to misinterpret the timelines.

“While I believe the basic intentions and dedication of many of the people trying to make this work is admirable, they are in over their heads and the weeks of denial, and the lack of preparation is showing,” said Berlin.

Still, some owners are having better experiences than others. Janice Leone, head of Corporate Interiors in Wayne, said that the SBA approved her company’s loan application through Oceans First Bank.

“They approved our loan and provided our financial institution with the [PPP] loan number” after a week, said Leone.
