It might have been the magic words, “Happy Hour,” but a new Facebook Group, “Delco Happy Hour” is an instant hit, writes Vince Carey for the Daily Times.

Norwood’s Karen O’Connor started the group March 19 with Interboro High friends Brenda Bustin and Carolyn Muldoon.

The next morning, there were 600 requests to join. By 5 p.m., the group had 2,500 members.

Now it’s up to 50,000 members.

“It’s been crazy,” O’Connor said. “The numbers keep growing. I think we are approving about 100 a day.”

The page has been a big help to the alcohol business. 2SP Brewing Company in Aston was looking for ways to sell its beer after restaurants closed.

“We put a post on the page about doing delivery,” said MIke Contreras, director of Sales and Marketing for 2SP. “I thought it would get a little bit of notice. Maybe a couple of likes.”

2SP actually picked up 6,000 likes.  “So, we talked to our vendors and decided to do home delivery a couple of days a week. It’s worked out better than we ever expected.”

The group has also been a place to share fears and overcome isolation.
