In its second major round of grantmaking, The Foundation for Delaware County, the largest public charity in Delaware County, announced $1,055,488 in grant awards to 52 area nonprofits.

Grants were awarded in the following areas:

• Economic Stability: $55,000
• Education: $300,000
• Health and Healthcare: $597,779
• Neighborhood and the Built Environment: $25,000
• Community Based Grants: $50,000
• Census Outreach: $27,700

One Million Plus in Competitive Grant Awards

“Our grant awards could not have come at a more opportune time as we learn about nonprofits shifting from programming to survival in response to the COVID-19 crises,” says Frances Sheehan, foundation president. “The foundation has committed to allowing grantees the opportunity to redirect their grant to mitigate COVID-19 challenges and will work with each organization on an individual basis.”

Foundation grants awarded this week include:

• $148,000 to hospice and homecare organizations, thanks to a $116,000 grant from the Philadelphia Foundation’s Delaware County Hospice and Home Care Fund.

Included in that pool is a $40,000 commitment to Senior Community Services (SCS) to provide home-delivered meals to elderly people in Delaware County.  SCS continues to do this work through the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Grants to address and advocate for lead screening and for, preventive care, dental services, and behavioral health counseling, including $60,000 for ChesPenn Health Services to support their Complex Care Program.

The goal of this program is to improve the health outcomes of medically complex patients with a community-based care management team that works to prevent health deterioration and decrease multiple in-patient or emergency room visits.

• In addition, The Communities Foundation (TCF) was awarded $50,000 earlier this year to enable them to respond to local community efforts in Delaware County.

2020 Census Outreach Grants

The foundation has also awarded $27,700 to eight organizations providing outreach for the 2020 Census.

These grants will help promote the census in hard-to-reach communities and encourage people to fill out their Census forms.

In total, the foundation has awarded $58K to nonprofits in two rounds of census grantmaking. Nonprofits are encouraged to apply for the third and final round of census funding by April 29 at 5 p.m. through the foundation’s website.
