Is social distancing making it hard for you to handle routine appointments?

The staff at Media Veterinary Hospital have come up with a creative approach to keep your pets healthy while maintaining a safe distance, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

It’s a carside service for animals.

Clients arrive outside the hospital with their pet. After a quick call to the office, a technician goes out to the car, gets some vital information and brings the pet into the building.

The hospital is also keeping staff apart and using hand sanitizer, alcohol, face masks and doing a lot of cleaning.

“It’s working out nicely. We have no other choice,” said Cheryl Chamberlain, office manager. “We’re prioritizing sick animals and having wellness visits rescheduled.

“We’re still able to service sick pets, and are still performing pet surgeries,” she said.

Clients like the idea of not sitting in a waiting room, Chamberlain said.

Even so, there has been a definite decrease in business at the hospital, thanks to COVID-19. It usually handles about 25 to 30 pets a day.

More clients are asking to double up on prescription and pay over the phone.
