Workers put in the last beam of the patient care pavilion.

The final beam for Riddle Hospital’s five-story patient care pavilion was put in place this week, writes John George for The Philadelphia Business Journal.

The pavilion is the main part of a $327 million campus renovation project for the Media hospital.

The pavilion, coming in at 230,000 square feet, will have 76 private rooms, a surgical suite with 10 operating rooms and three procedure rooms and a new maternity ward.

It’s expected to be finished in the summer of 2023.

“Following a very difficult year, this is an exciting reminder of a bright future,” said Riddle Hospital President Shelly Buck. “We want to create a healing environment, and further enhance the privacy and satisfaction of our patients.”

The campus modernization is the largest ever for the 58-year-old hospital.  It joined Main Line Health in 2007.

Construction began in October but was delayed by the pandemic-induced construction ban in 2020.

There will also be renovations to the hospital’s intensive care unit and other care and support areas. The total project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2024.

The Wawa Foundation has donated $2.2 million to the project.
