Cheyney University in Thornbury will become home to a 10-acre hemp farm with a processing plant taking over the school’s Jones Hilton maintenance building, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Times.

West Chester-based Advanced Alchemy Labs, which produces hemp extract health products, is partnering with the university.

The university, located in Delaware and Chester counties, is on the rebound, with student enrollment up and its budget balanced for the first since 2011. It earned accreditation in November.

Cheyney University President Aaron A. Walton spoke enthusiastically about this recent partnership.

“First, there will be paid internships for our students, along with training and curriculum surrounding hemp cultivation and processing. Also, Cheyney will benefit financially from the company’s presence on our campus. This partnership is yet another example of the two filters we use to evaluate opportunities: Number One, it must be in the best interest of our students and Number Two, it must preserve/advance our institution.”

Advanced Alchemy Labs wants to distribute globally from the site. The location is ideal—close to its West Chester offices, with farming, processing and research all available at one location, said Advanced Alchemy Labs Managing Partner Britt Maazgatti.
