When Tanitra first entered the Child Guidance Resource Centers’ CRR program in 1999, she couldn’t communicate or take care of her personal needs.

She wasn’t taking her medication. She had no idea how to perform simple tasks like washing dishes.

Making big changes to her life was a hurdle for Tanitra, but getting help from Child Guidance Resource Centers’ Adult Services was a leap she was willing to make in order to learn.

She received help through Child Guidance’s Community Rehabilitative Residence (CRR). The program provides a structured living environment for adults with chronic, serious behavioral health challenges.

The CRR offers support and skills training so that individuals can build social skills, increase self-esteem, learn to live independently and become participating members of the community.

Twenty years after entering CRR, Tanitra is thriving. She takes care of herself now. She has good communications skills and a new, more independent place to live.

Her first goal was learning to clean. Over 16 years, Tanitra made her space colorful and comfy.  She followed that up by championing her healthcare, mastering public transportation and learning to live on her own.

Tanitra is thriving thanks to the help she received from CRR. She is now independent and mentoring others.

You can watch Tanitra’s story and hear from her and those who helped make it happen here.
