A non-profit in Radnor is helping patients pay for long-term illnesses or injuries, reports 6abc.com.

The organization was created 37 years ago by a Temple Hospital transplant surgeon, Dr. Jack Kolff, and his wife, Patricia Kolf, a nurse.  Dr. Kolff recognized that there were patients who needed heart transplants who weren’t able to afford it.

Help Hope Live helps those who are facing organ and cell transplants, those with spinal cord or traumatic brain injury and those dealing with catastrophic illnesses like cancer.

Clients can keep their current health insurance while receiving funds from the non-profit.

“One, we lend our charitable status to people so that they can fund raise,” said Kelly Green, executive director of Help Hope Live. “We protect their Medicaid and their government assistance, and a critical element is that we verify that a medical condition exists, and we pay all the bills directly, there is no fraud.”

More than 3,000 patients a year have benefited from their services and over $6.2 million were paid in medical bills.
