Media resident Bob Boell, a retired minister, has replaced his pulpit with an information desk at the Kimmel Center, where he greets and provides information to visitors every Friday afternoon, writes Ruth Rovner for the Daily Times.

Fridays are particularly busy as the Philadelphia Orchestra usually has a matinee concert at 2 PM, with many visitors stopping by the desk before or after the performance.

“The Philadelphia Orchestra is a big draw,” he said.

Before volunteering at the Kimmel Center, the West Chester native served for almost 21 years at Aston Presbyterian Church and then 19 years at First Presbyterian Church in Corning, N.Y. After retiring, he settled in Media.

He was also curious to see the Kimmel Center, but did not foresee what his visit would lead to.

“I talked to a couple of volunteers at the information desk, and one thing led to another,” he said.

In the 13 years since, he has worked there every Friday.

Boell also sings in the choir of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester.

“I couldn’t do that until I retired,” he said. “And now I really enjoy it.”
