Middletown Township Council is considering allowing BET Investments to move fill material from the Promenade at Granite Run development to the forthcoming Smedley Park, writes Kathleen Carey for the Delaware County News Network.

At this time, stormwater basins are being installed on the Smedley parcel, which will feature a series of baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse fields. Wooded trails will take up the rest of the development.

The Promenade at Granite Run is the retail and residential development that was approved three years ago to replace the declining Granite Run Mall. Construction began around a year after the project was approved, and the site started getting new tenants.

Most of the old facility was demolished, save for Boscov’s and Sears. The new project overseen by Horsham’s BET Investments will include new shops, such as T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, a 192-unit apartment complex, and a five-story garage.

“We need this soil to properly level the playing fields that are being installed,” said Mark Kirchgasser, Middletown Township Council Chairman.
