Delco Native, Owner of Ammos Glass in Upper Darby Helps to Restore Historic Boyd Theater

Christina Sioutis

Christina Sioutis, the owner of Ammos Glass in Upper Darby, helped to restore the Art Deco glass on the façade of the Boyd Theater in Philadelphia, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia magazine.

The 30-year-old Delco native was not originally planning to become a glass artist. She majored in design and merchandising at Drexel, before moving to New York to work for a fashion design company.

However, when her father called her eight years ago, saying a woman he knew was selling a small glass-etching business, she decided to return home despite knowing nothing about the craft. She then worked with the seller to learn the ropes, before buying her own equipment and opening a shop.

Now, Sioutis has done work for the University of Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Comcast, and Brandywine Realty Trust.

However, the three-year Boyd Theater job was a special treat for her.

“When I got the call for the Boyd, I was super-psyched,” she said. “I walked through to see all the incredible work they did 100 years ago. Imagine how they used to have to do it back then.”
