The Urban Research and Development Corporation recently unveiled a feasibility study for developing the Pilgrim Park Trail in Upper Darby, writes Linda Reilly for the Daily Times.
The firm presented three comprehensive maps for the trail along Darby Creek in Drexel Hill for review by residents.
For the research, area residents were asked to complete a survey on when and where they use trails and their preferences. They were also asked if they supported the Pilgrim Park Trail project.
“This would complete the township’s segment of the trail along Darby Creek that starts at Kent Park,” said Leisure Services Director John McMullan.
The 10-foot-wide trail will have four segments and may go underneath Township Line Road after the Township Line bridge is rebuilt. Due to the topography, some sections do not go directly along the creek to avoid steep and flooded areas.
Marple’s Amerjit Singh, of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, was pleased with what was presented.
“We need more trails,” said Singh. “It’s safer, and you know there are no cars.”
