The Philadelphia Union has partnered with KicksUSA, a Philadelphia-based footwear and apparel retailer with stores in Upper Darby and Eddystone, to get customized soccer cleats, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

KicksUSA will be the first “official footwear customization service” provider for a Major League Soccer franchise. According to Doug Vosik, the Union’s senior vice president for marketing, no other soccer franchise has ever had a partner that would create customized cleats for their players.

He said that KicksUSA is “at the forefront of design and innovation, and we’re excited to see what they can create in partnership with our players.”

As part of the partnership agreement, KicksUSA has agreed to sell Union merchandise in its stores at select locations in Philadelphia. This will include offering a range of Union “kicks” at the Union store for sale at games next season.

“KicksUSA is a perfect fit for us,” said Jean-Paul Dardenne, senior vice president of corporate partnerships for the Philadelphia Union.

“We think our players will love this one-of-a-kind service, and we also think our fans will enjoy the increased retail distribution that a premium partner like KicksUSA offers.”
