The Unifying Group of Media, founded by Eric Townes, works together with the community to provide guidance for local children, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Delaware County News Network.

“Our mission is to provide a coalition of people to provide events and activities to the community as a whole,” said Townes.

Currently, the group is preparing for Unity Day weekend on Aug. 24-26.

The weekend will start that Friday night with a “Black and White Cabaret” fundraiser at Swarthmore Community Center. Then, the Ninth Annual Unity Day is on Saturday from noon to dusk at Sapovits Park in Nether Providence Township.

The free event will feature food, live music, games, face painting, and a waterslide.

“It’s like a big block party, only even better because it’s not only one block of people,” said Unifying Group of Media volunteer Cheryl Borelli.

The event will finish on Sunday with its annual backpack giveaway.
