Public Input Sought on Recreation Trail Connecting Smedley Park to Glen Providence Park in Media

By

Delaware County is considering a multi-use trail that would connect Smedley Park in Springfield with Glen Providence Park in Media.

The county was recently awarded a $35,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to prepare a feasibility study for the Media-Smedley Connector Trail.

A public meeting to discuss the trail will take place Tuesday, June 18, 7 p.m., at the Community Center at the Media Municipal Center, 301 N. Jackson Street in Media. A presentation will be followed by small group discussions.

The trail would serve as a major east-west connection in the countywide trail network. It has the potential to link three county parks, multiple local parks, and five municipalities, including Media Borough.

The study will explore route alternatives and design options for the trail, which is envisioned to begin at Upper Providence Township’s Scott Park and connect into Media Borough and Nether Providence Township before continuing into Smedley Park.

The final report will recommend the steps needed to improve travel between those destinations on a pedestrian- and bike-friendly trail.

The trail’s planning process will be conducted in close coordination with a study committee and local municipalities; it will also involve outreach to the community.
