Media-based Pilot Freight Services has hired its first COO to sustain operations after years of continuous double-digit revenue growth, writes Kenneth Hilario for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The transportation and logistical services company opened in 1970. Now, it’s the largest privately-owned freight forwarder in the nation, with more than 800 employees at 75 locations across North America and Western Europe.

To manage its growing operations and look for new opportunities, Pilot appointed Zach Pollock its first COO. Previously, Pollock was Pilot’s executive vice president responsible for operations, sales, and administrative teams at 28 locations.

Pollock will design an operational blueprint to ensure Pilot’s business goals are met. He’ll also identify and leverage new opportunities, while reporting directly to Pilot’s CEO, Gordon Branov.

The need for a COO comes after the company’s consistent growth over the last few years, from $591.3 million in 2016 to $639 million in 2017. And for the first quarter of this year, revenue is already up 21.5 percent from the same period last year.
