Command Sgt. Maj. Sean McGlensey of Upper Darby found himself on his way to the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif., just days after taking over as the senior NCO (non-commissioned officer) of the 40th Engineer Battalion with 2nd Brigade in El Paso, Texas, writes David Burge for the El Paso Times.

McGlensey and the rest of the battalion and brigade took part in the August rotation at the California-based NTC, where McGlensey led by example.

“Being new in the unit and being a new sergeant major, it was an eye-opening experience,” he said. “I had two main goals: One was for everyone to be safe, and for them to all learn something.”

However, this was far from McGlensey’s first rotation. The combat engineer has already completed four rotations at NTC, one at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk in Louisiana, and around a half-dozen at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Germany.

Now back at Fort Bliss in El Paso, the Battering Rams and the rest of 2nd Brigade will take some time to rest and recharge. They will then complete their final training, before being deployed to Kuwait in late October or early November.
