FarmArt, the produce wholesaler from Folcroft, is suing a number of Philadelphia restaurants owned by Iron Chef Jose Garces for allegedly having more than $118,000 in unpaid grocery bills, writes Alex Rose for the Daily Times.

The suit names Tinto Restaurant, Distrito, The Olde Bar, Volver, Urbanfarms, the Garces Trading Company, and Garces Catering – all of which are owned by the Garces Restaurant Group – as defendants.

The Delaware County produce company claims it had established a credit arrangement with the Garces Group in May 2012. Under the agreement, the defendants had to pay for goods and services provided by FarmArt within 30 days of delivery.

The complaint states that any unpaid charges after the agreed-upon period would accrue an annual 18 percent delinquency charge, as well as 33 percent of the total balance as attorney’s fees in the case where collection was required.

The suit alleges that “despite frequent demands,” each of the restaurants did not fulfill their obligations.

In reply, the Garces Group issued a statement, saying “Our relationships with our vendors are of the utmost importance to us, and we are working to resolve this quickly and amicably.”
