Patrice Banks of Upper Darby’s Girls Auto Clinic is making a career in car mechanics more attainable for women with her free monthly workshops at her all-female garage, writes Anya Alvarez for espnW.com.

Girls Auto Clinic stands out from typical auto shops as it includes the Clutch Beauty Bar, a hair and nail salon. This has become popular for both male and female customers as they wait for their vehicles to be serviced.

Banks, who grew up in Phoenixville, was offering free car workshops even before she founded Girls Auto Clinic and continues to offer free monthly classes at her new shop. The interest is huge with each class filled within a couple hours of being posted on the shop’s website.

In fact, Banks has been flooded with requests to host classes in other cities.

“Women are eager to learn more about their cars,” she said.

Banks has also published a book – Girls Auto Clinic Glove Box Guide – which gives simple, step-by-step instructions and advice on auto maintenance, repairs, and roadside emergencies.

“I thought it would be great to put it in a book, so people who couldn’t go to workshops could access the information,” said Banks.
