The Sun East Federal Credit Union announced shortly after its 68th annual shareholders meeting that Anthony B. “Tony” Brazunas III, one of the board’s longest-serving members and current chairman, will be retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.

After decades of providing governance and counsel to the Sun East board of directors, Brazunas will receive an appointment as Director Emeritus.

“Tony’s contributions to Sun East are immeasurable, and we owe him a huge debt of gratitude,” said CEO Mike Kaczenski. “When Tony joined our board, the credit union had just over 7,000 members and $39 million in assets; he not only helped us navigate turbulent economic times, but under his governance we’ve grown to over $520 million in assets and more than 45,000 members.

“That’s a level of success that was simply unimaginable to us back in 1986. Tony’s distinguished appointment as Director Emeritus was extremely well deserved, and although we’ll miss his him, he has left us in the best of hands.”

As a result of Brazunas’s retirement, Sun East’s executive board of directors was realigned. Tom Crawford – a former Sunoco employee of 35 years and current owner and President of TS Crawford Consulting, LLC – was appointed chairman.

“Tom’s participation on numerous committees and national advisory boards during his tenure with Sunoco, combined with his history at Sun East, plus his degrees in education from both West Chester University and Temple University, has more than prepared him to fulfill his role of leadership and oversight with Sun East,” said Kaczenski.

The remaining executive board members include Michael Davey – a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and President and founder of I.T. support and service company, I.T. Services Group, LLC – who will now serve as vice chairman.

Diana Robinson, Assistant Controller for Neumann University, was appointed to the board in January 2009, and will now serve as treasurer. Nancy McClintock, a former Sunoco employee of 29 years, will continue to serve as secretary, a role she has held since 2003.

The Aston-based credit union also announced that Donna Weidel, President of Burgess Communications, a business-to-business advertising agency in West Chester, has been appointed to Sun East’s Board of Directors.

“Donna’s business acumen, combined with her above-average commitment to community and service, make her exactly the type of person we need to help carry on retiring chairman Brazunas’s legacy of putting our members’ financial well-being at the forefront of every decision we make,” said Kaczenski.
