Delaware County Council

Delaware County Council has formally announced that veteran career firefighter and homeland security professional Timothy Boyce will take over as director of emergency services and emergency management. Boyce replaces Edwin Truitt, who retired after 40 years of dedicated service to the county.

Boyce, whose career in public service spans 35 years, most recently served as the Deputy Chief for the Upper Darby Fire Department and Homeland Security Director for the Delaware County District Attorney’s office.

“Tim Boyce is a dedicated public servant and an experienced leader in public safety,” said Council Chairman Mario Civera Jr. “His expertise and leadership makes him an exemplary candidate for this position. County Council is thrilled to have him lead our skilled staff at the 911 Center.”

Elwyn

Elwyn has announced that Dr. Frank Farley is the newest member of its board of directors. “Dr. Farley’s dedicated and distinguished career and his commitment to serving individuals with disabilities speaks volumes of his abilities to serve on Elwyn’s board,” said Sandra Cornelius, President of Elwyn.

Farley is the L.H. Carnell Professor of Educational Psychology at Temple University. He is a national leader in psychology, having served as President of several organizations, some of which include the American Psychological Association, the American Educational Research Association, and Society for Humanistic Psychology.

Smashburger

Smashburger, the nation’s fastest growing “better burger” restaurant, brings its fresh approach to burgers to Brookhaven when it opens its newest restaurant today at 10 AM in The Shoppes at Brookhaven.

Local co-owners Kevin Murphy, Dan O’Shaughnessy, Dan Hill, and Gene Giordano are also happy to announce that during its official opening on Dec. 10, they will be offering free milkshake samples for shopping center visitors, as well as the opportunity to win raffled gift cards. The public can later enjoy a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and other offerings from nearby retailers.

Smashburger will also be a collection site for Toys for Tots, and customers are encouraged to bring in unwrapped toys to be given to less fortunate children in the community.

“We are thrilled to join the wonderful Brookhaven community,” said Murphy, a Delco resident. “If you have never tried one of our burgers, you are in for a treat.”

Axalta Coating Systems

To recognize and help raise awareness for National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, employees from Axalta Coating Systems, a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings based in Glen Mills, swapped their laptops for ladles and fulfilled the Ministry of Caring’s lunch service needs at its Emmanuel Dining Room in Wilmington, Del.

The Ministry of Caring is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting those living in poverty in the Greater Wilmington area. Employees at Axalta’s North American Headquarters also hosted a non-perishable food drive to collect canned goods for Emmanuel Dining Room’s busy holiday season.
