After listening to a presentation by CSX and comments from residents, the Upper Chichester Planning Commission voted unanimously to delay a vote on the proposal to develop six acres of land next to its Twin Oaks distribution center, writes Loretta Rodgers for the Daily Times.

CSX, an international transportation company, is looking to build on the undeveloped land next to its facility to handle the growing number of new vehicles being shipped to the Mid-Atlantic region. Part of the plan is to pave 3.6 acres to create more areas where vehicles can be staged during processing at the facility.

“Property developers have rights, persons who sell properties have rights, and people who live in the area have rights,” said James Renner, Planning Commission Chairman.

He added that up until now, CSX has not presented itself as a good neighbor in the community with issues such as causing blocked roadways and preventing full mobility of emergency vehicles.

“It is not acceptable to throw your hands in the air and say, oh well, it’s because we are running a big business,” he said, adding that before voting, he wants written commitment on improving these issues.
