Despite doing business through a century-old wooden cash register, nor not having a social media presence, Quincy’s gift shop in Media has never had trouble attracting customers, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Delaware County News Network.

Middletown Township resident Bennie Cope started Quincy’s on West State Street in Media three decades ago as a gift-basket business with her late daughter Ann.

While the baskets were originally filled mostly with gourmet foods, customers began inquiring about the possibility of adding a keepsake gift. Not long after, the giftware component of the business started blossoming, and Alan Berkey joined as co-owner.

The shop has done so well over the past 30 years that it has never needed a single sale or clearance event, as most items usually sell out fairly rapidly. Customers come for items such as indoor and outdoor decorative pieces, ladies’ hats, gourmet foods, plush toys, and nostalgic candy.

“Our items sell quickly,” said Berkey. “If someone is debating whether to come back for a particular item they want, I always encourage them to pick it up then, because there may be none left the next time they come in the store.”
