A state grant worth $30 million might clear the way for Boeing to land a major military contract in Ridley Park that would provide work for a decade or two.

Boeing has applied for the money from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program in order to get a $65 million project off the ground, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report by Alison Burdo. The project would renovate a vacant industrial building into a workshop for aircraft modifications.

The renovation could be a key component in Boeing’s bid for a Naval Air Systems Command contract to modify 255 aircraft, likely V-22 Ospreys. But the aerospace leader is competing against its Osprey co-developer, Bell Helicopter in Texas, for the job.

If plans take off, the facility would provide “significant economic employment over the next 10-20 years,” including retaining 450 jobs.
