The secret to success in the world of business after college graduation is not locked, password-protected, encoded, or encrypted.

However, there is a key attitude that’s critical to moving up, and SAP North America President Jennifer Morgan shared it during her commencement address to the graduating class of Penn State Brandywine.

The Newtown Square-based executive for SAP, a cloud-services provider focused on simple and easy-to-use solutions, offered this equally simple and easy-to-follow advice: “We tend to assume, especially when we’re young, that there is some special knowledge for which we don’t have the password. When others think you’re ready, there is a good chance you are.

“My advice is don’t worry about a secret playbook; take the leap! Whether you’re running a company or starting your first job, the crucial thing is to be around people of ability and character, because they’re the ones who will make you better.”

Morgan’s advice reached 115 graduates and about 700 family members and friends during the recent ceremony, and Chancellor Kristin R. Woolever echoed the SAP philosophy in her comments.

“Graduates, you have intelligence, enthusiasm, and a fresh vision to give to the world,” she said. “I am confident that you will succeed.”
