Cityteam Ministries in Chester Helping Mothers in Need

Chester’s Cityteam Ministries, through its Mother-Baby Care program, provides food and diapers for more than 1,000 families every year, writes Peg DeGrassa of Delaware County News Network.

Two times a week, moms in need can walk into Cityteam Ministries and get the diapers, food, clothing and formula that they need for their babies and other children.

According to DeGrassa, Cityteam receives no government funding and is relies completely upon donations from individuals, companies, and churches and the generosity of volunteers and donations.

The Mother-Baby Care program, under the direction of Anna Donahoe, provides a newborn layette to every expectant or new mother who comes to Cityteam. The program recently received a grant to purchase car seats for new mothers.

The Mother-Baby Care room at Cityteam is full of children’s clothing, toys, games, books, and shoes. Mothers can come choose what they need for their children, including gently used children’s furniture and baby equipment. All items are arranged in organized fashion to make a pleasant shopping experience.

“We make a promise to families that we’ll provide them with formula, diapers, and wipes and we have to keep that promise,” Nancy Craskey, Cityteam Development Officer, told DeGrassa.

“If it weren’t for our program here, we found mothers would water down formula to last the month,” Donahoe said. “This is so dangerous.”
