The unmistakable spirit of George A. “Frolic” Weymouth will fill the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford one more time when the essence of his creative and fun-loving personality is put on display to memorialize a life lived to the full.

“The nickname ‘Frolic,’ given to him in childhood, perfectly embodied the joy with which he lived his life and his irrepressible sense of humor,” Carla J. Zambelli wrote in an obituary. “… From the Queen of England to the man serving French fries at Jimmy John’s, Mr. Weymouth had a genuine love and respect for the people around him and those he met.”

And the lifelong artist translated that personable interest in people to the canvases he painted on.

“Frolic had a remarkable eye,” Brandywine Museum of Art Director Thomas Padon said in a West Chester & Chadds Ford Life article by J. Chambless announcing the memorial exhibit. “Heir to the Brandywine school of artists, which he greatly admired, Weymouth worked in tempera and watercolor to create a highly personal panorama of the landscapes and people he knew.”

The new exhibit, which opened Friday, will showcase Weymouth’s talents through 15 landscape and portrait paintings to be displayed near the work of his friend and mentor, Andrew Wyeth. The exhibit will remain open through June 5.
