Academy Park Grad Balances Biomedical Engineering Studies with Burgeoning Music Career

Oluwasanmi "Victor" Ariyo

Oluwasanmi “Victor” Ariyo, a graduate of Academy Park High School, is balancing his studies at Penn State’s main campus with producing and promoting his own music, writes Jeff Rice for Penn State News.

Ariyo began playing viola and the drums in elementary school and started rapping and writing his own songs when he went to Academy Park. But he emphasized that he is not trying to sell his music, but rather to grow his audience.

“The music on the radio sounded good, but I didn’t see that a lot of it had a message behind it,” said Ariyo. “I thought I could add my two cents there.”

Now a biomedical engineering student, Ariyo has finalized his debut mixtape Common $ense under his artistic name Sanmi. At first, he set out to compile a 20-track list but gradually reduced it to nine for the mixtape.

Now, in addition to his full schedule of college courses and extracurricular activities, he is also marketing his album, mostly through online channels.

His work can be found on YouTube, Soundcloud, and iTunes.
