Jason Kelce spent 13 years mastering one of the most demanding positions in professional football. Now he’s starting over as a complete beginner, and he’s bringing cameras along for the ride.
The former Philadelphia Eagles center and Haverford resident has launched ‘Kelce Versus,’ a new YouTube mini-series that premiered June 4, which follows him as he steps outside his comfort zone and takes on a series of unfamiliar athletic challenges, reports Molly McVety for PhillyVoice.
The premise is simple. Can the competitiveness and determination that made Kelce one of the NFL’s most accomplished players translate to sports he’s never seriously attempted?
The show wastes no time putting that to the test, with Kelce tackling everything from racing around a NASCAR track to hitting a 100-mph fastball to learning how to dunk a basketball.
Kelce said the series was born out of something he’s missed since retiring: the feeling of striving to get better at something that doesn’t come easily.
“I will undoubtedly lose many battles in this venture,” Kelce said. “But losing is not something to be feared, it’s how we learn best.”
The premiere episode drops him into the world of NASCAR, where he drives at Charlotte Motor Speedway, joins the pit crew for professional driver Corey Day, and trains with Hendrick Motorsports to experience both the physical and mental demands of racing up close.
Produced by Kelce’s Wooderboy Productions and Wondery, new episodes will roll out on his YouTube channel.
Head over to PhillyVoice for the full breakdown of the series, including what other athletic challenges Kelce is tackling beyond NASCAR.
