One of Greater Philadelphia’s top BBQ spots, Sophie’s BBQ in Havertown, will be opening a second location in Manayunk, bringing delicious food to the area, writes June Bakan for Patch.
For executive chef Greg Herman, the new location is especially meaningful. Herman lived in Manayunk from 2015 to 2019, where his career began, and he met his general manager, Norah, who later became his wife.
He founded Sophie’s BBQ in Ardmore in 2020, where the restaurant sold out every night.
The establishment eventually moved to Havertown, and after a devastating fire forced a temporary closure, the restaurant reopened and once again began selling out nightly.
Sophie’s is teaming up with Philadelphia-based Love City Brewing, which has a second location preparing to celebrate its grand opening in Manayunk.
Along with serving as the taproom’s official food partner, Sophie’s will also manage catering for Love City’s event and party spaces.
“This is a moment that has been a long time in coming,” said Herman in a statement. “After customer requests and popular demand, we are excited to bring our BBQ to historic Main Street in Manayunk as the food partner for Love City Manayunk.”
Love City Manayunk’s grand opening will take place from 4 PM to midnight on May 8.
