The PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square will include a No-Drone Zone and road restrictions starting May 11, writes Pete Bannon for the Daily Times.
The FAA authorized a no-fly zone to cover any unauthorized aircraft in the area surrounding Aronimink during the May 11-17 event, including drones.
Newtown Township announced that, beginning at 4 AM on May 11, St. Davids Road will be closed to traffic, except for those with appropriate hangtag passes.
The road will be closed from 4 AM until 10 PM daily until May 17.
If daily play allows, the road could open earlier than 10 PM , but not any earlier than 6 PM.
Weather delays in the tournament could extend the road closure until Monday, May 18.
School buses, trash collection vehicles, lawn and “at-home” medical services can pass through if they have appropriate markings and are serving addresses along the St. Davids route.
Property owners in the area should reschedule services that week because of delays getting into neighborhoods.
Police will be present on surrounding roads to assist with traffic flow and to reduce inconveniences to residents.
Emergency services will be staffed at normal levels during the event.
