The 2026 PGA Championship has arrived at Aronimink Golf Club, and with it, what regional leaders are calling one of the most transformative sports tourism moments in Philadelphia history, according to Lara Schwartz of the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Nearly 200,000 spectators are expected to descend on the area through Sunday, with roughly two-thirds traveling from outside the region. Tourism officials project the tournament will pump more than $125 million into the local economy, and that’s before accounting for the extraordinary stretch of major events still to come.
The PGA Championship is just the beginning of the Philly region’s highly anticipated lineup. Philadelphia is gearing up to host FIFA World Cup matches, the MLB All-Star Game, and the U.S. Amateur Championship, all set against the backdrop of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
Larry Needle, executive director of PHL Sports, stated that the next four months could represent “one of the greatest slates of sporting events that any city has ever seen.”
“It really speaks to all that we have to offer as a city, as a tourism destination, and it speaks to the job that Philadelphia does and continues to deliver time after time,” he continued.
The impact is already being felt on the ground. Philadelphia-area vendors and hundreds of regional workers are supporting tournament operations across hospitality, construction, concessions, and event services, a preview of the economic wave building across the region.
