Golf Pros Excited for Philly Fans Attending the 2026 PGA Championship

The 2026 PGA Championship is taking place this week from May 14 to 17, and both Philly audiences and the PGA’s top golfers, like Matt Fitzpatrick, are excited.

With the 2026 PGA Championship taking place this week, from May 14 to 17, both fans and the golfing pros are excited for the tournament ahead, writes Marcus Hayes for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

PGA golfers have had some rough experiences with rude crowds in the past, specifically at the Ryder Cups held in the United States in 2025 and 2021.

Luckily, the atmosphere at Newtown Square’s Aronimink Golf Club is anticipated to be a rowdy but exciting one that top golfers are looking forward to.

Most players, like English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick and U.S. captain Keegan Bradley, have developed thick skin against insults thrown from spectators and can still enjoy the game.

“I love it,” said Bradley about crowds like the ones at the 2025 event. “Like I said, the people don’t get much [PGA Tour golf], so it’s always a big atmosphere, which is really fun.”

Kentuckian Justin Thomas tied for second at the Truist Championship last spring at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, which gave him some insight into the Philly fan base.

“It’s very, very passionate sports fans,” said Thomas. “You’re going to get that in the Northeast. They’re going to shoot it to you straight. That’s their M.O. I mean, the Truist last year, Philly Cricket Club, I loved. I thought the atmosphere and vibe at that event was awesome.”
