Yeadon Borough Police have transformed themselves in the past three years from a department with low morale to one of the top departments in Delaware County, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.
That effort was commended on March 5 when the department’s new state accreditation was celebrated.
“Here’s what you need to know, residents of Yeadon: your police department now is officially the best of the best,” said Delaware County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jack Stollsteimer.
The turnaround started soon after Yeadon Police Chief Henry J. Giammarco was sworn in on Jan. 31, 2023, taking charge of a 15-member police force.
Giammarco envisioned growing the department to 21 full-time officers, making the department the best in the region, with so many wanting to join that a waiting list would be needed to get in.
The department’s achievement also earned a citation from Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.
Yeadon Mayor Rohan Hepkins said the department has responded to Chief Giammarco’s quiet leadership.
Hepkins said changes in the world and the community mean leaning more on police officers, EMS, and fire departments to get things done.
The police chief credited the department’s success to a team effort.
