Chariot Allaire’s efforts to find one or more local nonprofits to run Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland will not be easy, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The new owner of the Crozer-Chester campus has been talking to all of the regional health systems for months and will soon begin a 90-day “study process with two and hopefully three of the major academic medical centers in the region,” according to Chariot Allaire CEO Yoel Polack.
Once partnered with one of the health systems, a revised Crozer-Chester campus would open two or three years later.
“It does not seem like there’s an easy and obvious candidate,” said Dan Grauman, managing director at VMG Health, a national healthcare consulting firm.
A few local health systems previously talked about creating a new nonprofit for Crozer-Chester, but nothing materialized.
The University of Pennsylvania Health System said in a statement it is still open to working with partners to restore “crucial healthcare services for Delaware County residents.”
ChristianaCare, which is opening two micro-hospitals in Aston and Springfield, is not currently talking to Chariot Allaire.
Polack said if local health systems aren’t interested, he would look farther away.
