The new owner of Taylor and Springfield hospitals, Todd Strine, and Chester Mayor Stefan Roots, recently talked about the future of Delaware County hospitals on Fox 29 Philadelphia.

KQT Aikens Partners, a Delaware County ambulance company, acquired Springfield and Taylor Hospitals for $1 million each from the bankruptcy proceedings of the previous owner, Prospect Medical Holdings Inc.

KQT is looking for a healthcare provider or physician group, or both, to operate the hospitals, with a goal of opening within months.

“Springfield is actually in great shape,” Strine said. “And Taylor needs a little bit of work, but it was functioning as a hospital as recently as less than a year ago.”

He envisions Springfield, the smaller of the two hospitals, as a specialty hospital, like a pediatric or orthopedic hospital.

Mayor Roots said he has a city of angry residents because Chester doesn’t have a hospital since the closing of Crozer Chester Medical Center.

He would like to see the Crozer Chester campus redeveloped under its new owners to  be more suitable for modern medicine in an urban setting.

The bigger facility will be more expensive to reopen and will need partnerships to make it happen, he said.
