Jefferson Health launches a huge fundraising campaign to modernize and expand the trauma center at Jefferson Abington Hospital, according to John George for The Philadelphia Business Journal.
Longtime supporters Bruce and Judi Goodman made a donation to kick-start the $30 million campaign. In recognition of their donation, the facility will be renamed the Goodman Emergency Trauma Center at Jefferson Abington Hospital. While the amount of the gift was not disclosed, Jefferson officials said the timing of the expansion will depend on continued fundraising progress.
Jefferson Abington’s trauma center is one of just two Level II trauma centers in Montgomery County, alongside Lankenau Medical Center. The emergency department currently treats more than 80,000 patients each year and serves as the hospital’s main “front door,” with nearly 75% of all patients entering through the ED.
Once completed, the project will increase annual capacity by 25%, allowing the trauma center to serve more than 100,000 patients and expand treatment spaces from 80 to 116.
The Abington project is part of a broader, multiyear effort by Jefferson Health to upgrade emergency departments across the region, including investments at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital.
