Fulfilling a lifelong ambition, Yardley native Terrence Wallin has taken on a pivotal role in the Flyers’ rebuild as the new assistant coach for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, writes Jackie Spiegel for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“The Flyers have always kind of been in the background of who I am as a person growing up here,” said Wallin. “Growing up a Flyers fan, you dream of being a part of it somehow. Obviously, when you’re young, you hope it’s as a player, but to get the opportunity to do it now as a coach is something that I don’t take for granted.”
Wallin began skating at Pennsbury, following his older brothers, and played across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. At La Salle College High School, he helped win the 2008 state championship and Class AAA Flyers Cup.
He spent four years at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, winning two Hockey East championships, and played professionally for five years, including for the Maine Mariners of the ECHL, before turning to coaching.
After three years as the Mariners’ head coach, he was hired as Lehigh Valley’s new assistant coach by coach John Snowden and Flyers assistant general manager Alyn McCauley.
