Jabz Boxing in Ridley Park Offers a Different Kind of Workout

Jabz Boxing in Ridley Park combines boxing, circuit training and a sense of community for a full-body workout.

Jabz Boxing at 611 N. Swarthmore Ave. in Ridley Park offers a different kind of workout for women.

This full-body, boxing-inspired gym with circuit training gives visitors a chance to punch, kick, lift, and row their way to fitness.

The gym was established about five years ago and is part of a multi-state franchise. Two Delaware County women now run the gym.

“We love the community,” said owner Kahlyn Ford.

Visitors receive training on the equipment from coaches, and they’re able to track their results and progress over time.

No prior boxing experience is necessary, and every workout is scalable to all fitness levels, according to the website.

There are 12 different sectors in the gym focusing on different parts of a total workout.   Participants work out for 55 seconds, then get a 25-second breather. A bell rings to let people know to move to the next sector.

Even first-timers quickly acclimate to the system.

“That’s what we really like to show. Everyone’s comfortable being in the community,” said Erin, one of the coaches.

One member, Kathy, described Jabz as the “best workout in the world.” “It’s punch without getting in trouble.”
