The Delco 10-Miler inaugural run was a big success, so now organizers want to double its size for 2026, writes Torin Sweeney for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
That means up to 2,500 runners could race, doubling the 1,200 runner cap in this year’s race that took place in September.
The Delco 10-Miler took runners through Upper Providence, Media, Nether Providence, and Chester, ending at Philadelphia Union’s Subaru Park.
The race raised $36,000 for the Delaware County Parks and Recreation Department, the Delaware County Arts Consortium, and the HEADstrong Foundation.
“The participants loved it,” race director Kevin Nolan said. “I couldn’t believe the enthusiasm and the collaboration between all the towns … and all the police in those towns and public works departments. It was pretty spectacular.”
Next year’s race will be better promoted, hopefully giving churches more advanced notice for the Sunday morning race that disrupted some church services.
There will also be small adjustments to the route and starting line, and a louder PA system.
Nolan may also pick a later date in October for next year’s race so it doesn’t compete with the Philadelphia Distance Run.
Registration for next year’s race is expected to open in January.
